With the win, the Dawgs advance to next week's district final against Clarkston HS.

Titanic

Showing the offensive firepower worthy of their number one state ranking, the Sterling Heights Stevenson Titans defeated the Romeo Bulldogs varsity football team, 42-7, Friday, Oct. 16 at Barnabo Field.

Defensively, the Bulldogs intercepted two passes and kept the Titans pinned deep much of the night on exchanges of possession. But the Bulldogs never found their offensive rhythm during the matchup of MAC Red Division powerhouses.

Meanwhile, the Titans — behind the leadership of record-setting QB Jason Fracassa and a host of talented receivers/runners — scored on their first possession of each quarter on their way toward their eighth victory and a guaranteed continued top ranking.

Dawgs Colonize Patriots

The Romeo Bulldogs varsity football team spoiled Warren Cousino's homecoming with a 16-0 victory over the Patriots on Friday, Oct. 2 at Cousino's stadium.

After a scoreless first half, Romeo's Nathan Fraeyman returned the second-half kickoff for a touchdown to get the ball rolling for the Bulldogs.

Luke Lovasco scored Romeo's other TD on a pass reception from Ben Brown in the fourth quarter. Sandwiched between the two TDs was a Robbie Flinn field goal that accounted for the Bulldogs' other scoring.

Week 4 Results - Watchdog Game

All Are Victorious in First-Ever Watchdog Game

On a night that won't soon be forgotten by those who observed and took part in it, the least important fact to know is that the Romeo Bulldogs outscored the Fraser Ramblers, 38-14, in the first-ever Watchdog Game held Friday, Sept. 18, at Barnabo Field.

More important was the meaning behind the event. And what it achieved.

The football game capped a months-long, cross-community show of unity by Fraser and Romeo to raise awareness and money to fight cancer. The final tally exceeded $90,000.

The commitment to the cause was on display the week leading up to the game as participants from both schools honored cancer survivors/victims by wearing pink during their competitions. Soccer, swim, volleyball, and cross country teams joined in the effort. Band, cheer and dance teams did so, too, along with coaches and support staff.

It all culminated on Friday night, when Barnabo Field hosted a crowd unlike any that's ever gathered inside its gates.

Over 7,000 mostly pink-clad spectators — a Romeo record and more than twice the normal size for a football game — jammed the stadium.

Fans began arriving an hour-and-a-half before kickoff to partake of pregame festivities.

Even with additional bleachers brought in specifically for the contest, people spilled into walkways, leaned against fences, sat on the track and sprawled on the end zone grass.

Many in the attendance on both sides wore pink fundraising Watchdog t-shirts, which were proudly on display after the game when the stands emptied and anyone in pink — spectators, players, coaches, honorees, their families, cheerleaders, dancers, band members, teachers, support staff, guests — was invited to take the field and form a pink ribbon of solidarity.

That was followed by a ceremonial “giving of the jerseys,” in which those who wore a named uniform gave it to their honoree or honoree's family.

Tears, hugs, smiles and flashbulbs were in abundance during this final act of generosity that, fittingly, took place in the end zone and concluded a night in which everyone scored — and all were winners.

Dawgs Muzzled by Cougars

The Romeo Bulldogs varsity football team was defeated by the Macomb Dakota Cougars 33-17 Friday, Sept. 11 at Dakota Stadium. Turnovers and inopportune penalties undid an early 10-0 Bulldogs' lead and allowed the Cougars to avenge last year's loss to Romeo.

Dawgs Declaw Falcons

After a sluggish first half, the Romeo Bulldogs varsity football team found its offensive groove in the second half on its way to a 44-9 victory over the Utica Ford Falcons before a Peach Weekend full house at Barnabo Field on Sept. 4.

The Bulldogs scored on four of their seven second-half possessions, including a four-play, 64-yard sequence on the first drive after halftime that set the tone for the rest of the game.

In total, Ben Brown, Jason Schirmer, Brad Rice and Alex Rashid scored touchdowns for Romeo. Brown had three scores. Receivers Austin Coniglio and Justin Medley made key catches that kept offensive drives alive.

Defensively, Mitch Decook contributed with a fourth quarter interception that led to the Rashid score. And, for the second week in a row, Rice blocked a punt that led to a Bulldogs touchdown.

With the win, the Bulldogs are 2-0 (1-0 league) heading into next week's matchup with Dakota. Utica Ford's record stands at to 1-1 (0-1) as they prepare for next week's game versus SH Stevenson.

Thomas Interception, Brown Runs Key Victory

The Romeo Bulldogs varsity football team opened the 2009 season with a 23-0 victory over Warren-Mott on a rain-soaked Barnabo Field on Aug. 28.

The Bulldogs defense picked off three passes on the night, including one that was returned for a touchdown by cornerback Ryan Thomas on Mott's first play from scrimmage less than one minute into the game. Other interceptions came from Matt Ruman and Zach Bellas.

Brad Rice contributed to the first half effort with a block punt.

The Bulldogs' other points came on two Ben Brown touchdown runs and a field goal by Robbie Flinn. All of the scoring occurred in the first half.
