The game ended in controversy when Dakota's Mark Morris sank a three-point shot at the buzzer to seemingly give the Cougars the win, 63-62. But officials assessed a technical foul against Dakota for excessive celebration. Romeo's Ryan Thomas sank one of two technical free throws to send the game into overtime, where Romeo prevailed.
